Silly Sing-Along 3: The Wonderful World of Auto-Tainment! is the third sing-along video and was released on VHS and DVD in January 14, 2003 by Word Entertainment and Warner Home Video.
You all remember the VeggieTales episode “The Wonderful World Of Auto-Tainment” right? It had songs like “Modern Major General” and others in it. But about 2 months before its release, there was actually another version of it! It was actually released as the THIRD SILLY SING ALONG! The lyrics were also the EXACT same color and font as VeggieTalesFan 2003’s version! There are some MAJOR differences from this version and the final version however! The Auto-Tainment theme had more/alternate scenes. The wheel of veggies wasn’t animated at that time, so they had to zoom in to Bob and Larry with the scenes with the wheel of veggies, because at the time, there was a gray square that would be where the wheel of veggies in the final version. Some scenes from the final version weren’t animated yet. There was an additional scene with the Ventrilomatic. When he saw the Grapes of Wrath’s old junky car, he looked at Rusty, then generated if they had anything in common, and sure enough the car and Rusty DID have similarities, which made the scene that the Ventrilomatic say “Perhaps you originated from the same-parts facility” which was also in the final. The Ventrilomatic’s line when he said “Fascinating!” before he said “You do share similarities!” was animated at the time, but they thought it wouldn’t make sense to put it after he found out that Rusty and the car had similarities so they put the “Fascinating!” line beforehand and they just used the audio from that line. There was also a scene where Larry pushed the button to turn on “Love Your Neighbor” which Mr. Lunt was supposed to press but “it was an emergency”. That scene was animated differently in the final by Larry running through the blue doors and singing “You Are My Sunshine”. Mr. Lunt’s “Hey” also had “You’re supposed to be randomly selected!” added in the final version. And there was another scene when Larry had a piece of paper for Mr. Lunt to see and it said “Play God’s Way to tell Bob how much God loves us no matter what happens.” the piece of paper wasn’t included in the final though. In the final, Larry said “Would you mind queuing up Junior?” so Junior could sing “My Day”. Some scenes were animated, but were zoomed in because they wanted to hide animation goofs, some got scrapped because the voices were hard to hear because the microphone was malfunctioning so they replaced those lines and those scenes as well. They fixed them for the final version. Also the scene when Bob told Larry “That wasn’t a randomly generated joke.” was swapped to a different place in this version. The never before seen Silly Song at the end of the video was a prototype version of Belly Button. Why was it a prototype you may ask? Well because the animation was unfinished at the time, the song was high pitched to make it sound like a 1970’s style of song and it wasn’t in letter box wide screen format. This version also had a Silly Song With Larry title card. Also at the end, Mr. Lunt’s line “Do I at least get a lollipop?” wasn’t pitch shifted at the time, but in this version after he said it, the angered nurse threw a lollipop back to Mr. Lunt. That scene was cut from the final version which was on the Ballad of Little Joe. Also the scene when the Boyz were on the couch talking about how they’re artists wasn’t animated at the time. There was also a prototype trailer for the Ballad of Little Joe at the beginning of the tape. Sadly the Sing-Along files for this episode got deleted less than 2 weeks after its release so they couldn’t put it on anymore VHS’s or DVD’s, as a result, there were only 4 VHS’s and only 1 DVD released of this version. This version originally released on January 14, 2003, that’s why it has a 2002 copyright date, because this episode was released really early in 2003. This was actually a reprint and the print date for this VHS was January 20, 2003, that’s the only one I could find. I found this tape under an organ in the nursery room in a very old church. Enjoy.
